By Gary Rautenstrauch
As I am
privileged to speak with many of you at conferences, user groups, and
events, I am continually impressed with the quality of our customers. Working together, we can and
do accomplish great things. Our constant goal
is to continue to participate in your
long-term success.
Along
those lines, I'm happy to report that in the last 18 months, we've
released 13 new products or updates—all on time and with the features
promised in our new roadmaps. The kudos go not only to our hard-working
development and testing teams, but also to
your efforts in making your enhancement needs clear and using innovation in your own
modification of SirsiDynix products. In addition, our beta sites have
been invaluable in ensuring products release on time and with stable
functionality.
We're
excited not
only about the product releases we've delivered with your help, but also about
the improvements in services that we've implemented in response to your suggestions and survey responses.
Our Sales department has reorganized to ensure
that you have a representative living close to your location who
can provide personalized
attention on a timely basis. Our
Training team has updated content and delivery methods for many of
our courses in order to offer cost effective training to those who
can't afford onsite training while renewing our emphasis in training
tailored to individual customers. In addition, our implementation team has
concentrated on efficiencies that have reduced implementation time by
20 percent while maintaining quality.
We continue to desire the best for you and the communities
you serve and value your willingness to involve us in your efforts. As
always, we strive to be an integral part of your continued success. We
appreciate your feedback and look forward to your continued appraisal
of what
we can do to help you succeed and achieve your professional goals.

"Who Needs
Anything 2.0?", Part Two
By
Stephen Abram
This
article is the second of Stephen Abram's three part series entitled
"So You Say Your Library is Really about Books, so 'Who Needs
Anything 2.0?'"
I
visit and see so many libraries - physical and virtual - and see so
many innovations that excite me and promote books, reading and what we
do so well. I also see a lot of folks who claim that new technologies
are unnecessary in libraries and especially anything TwoPointOh!
Library practice demands that we look for anything that improves our
mandates to promote learning, community, research, and reading.
Why
2.0? Well, because it offers the first real opportunity to use
technology to go beyond search, storage and retrieval and actually
engage with readers in a scalable way beyond our walls and beyond
physical book formats.
