R-Squared conference: Taking smart risks
In February 2011, a group of Colorado library professionals began brainstorming how libraries can avoid extinction, reinvent themselves and strengthen their role as vital parts of their communities. With that, R-Squared – The Risk & Reward Conference was born. Members of the Colorado State Library, Colorado Library Consortium (a 501(c)3), Anythink, Wilkinson Public Library and others have partnered with the creative guys at Ricochet Ideas to develop a way to share the philosophies that have inspired some of the most inventive libraries in the nation with others who are interested in creative thinking in libraries.
SirsiDynix is sponsoring the first R-Squared conference and invites you to come learn how to take smart risks to move your library forward. We know libraries are faced with diminishing budgets, new technologies and changing customer needs; learn how to adapt and innovate to transform into a dynamic center for free engagement with knowledge. Libraries must elevate their role as catalysts for social engagement by actively connecting people not only with information but also opportunities. This conference will focus on highly effective (and sometimes surprising) ways to tap into the underlying knowledge and power of any community and align forces with the people and organizations that create it.
Josh Linkner, New York Times bestselling author of Disciplined Dreaming: A Proven System to Drive Breakthrough Creativity, will kick off the conference as keynote. Additional speakers include Dr. John McKnight, co-director of the Asset-Based Community Development Institute and Professor Emeritus of Communications Studies and Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University; and John Creighton, former director and senior fellow with The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation.
