LEHI, UTAH (Sept. 11, 2014)— It is with deep sympathy and sadness that SirsiDynix acknowledges the passing of Paul K. Sybrowsky, co-founder of Dynix, Inc., on Sept. 10, 2014, after battling prolonged illness. Paul was known for his great vision and strong business sense, and was a leader who was respected and loved by the Dynix employees.

On August 22, 1983, Paul co-founded Dynix along with Keith Wilson, Jim Wilson, and Ralph Egan. By 1987, Dynix had become the #1 global leader in new library installations with 31 new customers that year. In 1993, Dynix signed its 1,000th installation contract and went on to become the largest ILS vendor in the world. During this period of incredible growth, Paul led the company as CEO until he left in 1995, a few years following the sale of the company to Ameritech Communications. Under Paul’s leadership, Dynix revolutionized the way a vendor respected the contributions of their customers in developing dynamic, innovative, and intuitive library software for the marketplace. Paul consistently placed customer service and customer inclusion above all other business priorities.

His efforts resulted in his recognition as Utah’s Small Businessman of the Year and Utah’s Entrepreneur of the Year in the field of technology. Paul also founded the Snowbird Leadership Institute in 1990, fostering the careers of dozens of young librarians—many of whom became leaders in the library industry.

His hard work, integrity, and enthusiasm served as the foundation for an impressive career, most recently serving as the 17th president of Southern Virginia University. He was an active member of his church, where he served in many leadership positions. His optimism, vision, faith, and humor were contagious to all those who surrounded him.

Our condolences go out to his wife of 46 years, Lynne Prior Sybrowsky, their nine children, and 29 grandchildren.
