The Todd Library has been part of the Waubonsee Community College since the doors of the college were opened in 1967. The Todd Library, located on the Sugar Grove Campus, is the main library serving as the center of the campus network; three extension sites are located at the Aurora Campus, Copley Campus, and Plano Campus. Housing a 73,000 volume collection of books, e-books, magazines and journals, multimedia titles, and a comprehensive collection of reference databases, the Todd library is able to support the college curriculum and provide research materials for students, faculty, staff and residents of the Waubonsee district. The library has enhanced its online catalog with the integration of Pinterest, Evernote, Cite This, and goodreads!
The thing that sets the Todd Library apart from other libraries is its Collection Map. Using the SirsiDynix API and the Google Maps API, the library’s technology coordinator was able to create an interactive, Google maps based collection map that assists students in locating items throughout the library. The collection map was developed by overlaying the library’s floor plan onto Google maps and including a link next to each item record inside the catalog. A small compass icon, when clicked, will bring up a floor plan and show the location of the item. Additionally, if the patron is using one of the library computers, a second pin will appear showing his or her current location as well. Lastly, the popup includes a QR code that allows the patron to scan the code to pull up a mobile version of the map on his or her mobile device to aid in locating materials. This is an innovative and useful feature to help patrons locate items and SirsiDynix is thrilled to provide services like our API to the Todd Library at Waubonsee Community College.
