Come listen to what Salt Lake County is doing and how they help their community learn the pluses and minuses of managing money! \n\n\n\nLiesl Seborg has worked in public libraries for more than 15 years and has been the Senior Librarian for Lifelong Learning with Salt Lake County Library Services since 2011. Liesl is passionate about equal access to library services for all members of the community and her varied projects\, along with her outreach efforts\, reflect that passion. \n\n\n\nPresenter \n\n\n\nLiesl is a regular presenter at library conferences including for the Utah Library Association\, Idaho Library Association\, Pacific Northwest Library Association\, the Mountain Plains Library Association and\, most recently\, the American Library Association conference. She has presented webinars on e-collections and innovative uses for iPads for Multiple Sclerosis patients.

SUMMARY:Programming Inspiration: Using Video Conferencing and Reading to Connect Children and Parents
DESCRIPTION:Join us to learn how the Free Library of Philadelphia is linking children and incarcerated parents through live video conferencing reading sessions.\n\n\n\n2.7 million American students are already further along the pipeline to prison than their classmates\, simply because they have a parent who is behind bars. In fact\, these children have much higher rates of attention deficits\, and as low as 13% will graduate from high school. A group of librarians are working to even the odds for these kids in their community by creating the “Stories Alive” program. \n\n\n\nJoin Titus Moolathara and Autumn McClintock as they share with us how they are using books and technology to help kids strengthen their relationship with their parents\, and with their education. \n\n\n\nPresenters \n\n\n\nTitus Moolathara manages the Prison Services program at the Free Library of Philadelphia. Prison Services was created in 2013 and is focused on developing a community-based model of comprehensive programming and services for incarcerated individuals\, returning citizens\, and their families. The Free Library established libraries inside city jails\, offers Stories Alive\, face-to-face live videoconferencing between inmates in prison and their children and families in a neighborhood library\, and temporary library card reentry resource packets to prison library users. Titus was named as one of Library Journal’s Movers & Shakers in 2016. Titus has MA and MPhil in history both from Jamia Millia Islamia University\, India and an MLIS from Drexel University. \n\n\n\nAutumn McClintock is Strategy Coordinator for the Free Library of Philadelphia where she spearheads strategic approaches to and planning for services to the incarcerated and their families\, health literacy\, and cultural and civic engagement. She is the Free Library’s former Assistant Chief of Staff\, and her professional experience includes project\, board\, and administrative management. She holds an MFA in creative writing\, is the author of a chapbook of poems\, and serves on the City of Philadelphia’s Poet Laureate Selection Committee.

Through a combination of efforts\, community engagement is up and their library is able to gather donations and gain support via local programming. \n\n\n\nJoin as Cara shares with us how she engaged with her local businesses and organizations and see what you can apply in your library and community to have the same success. \n\n\n\nPresenters \n\n\n\nCara Romeo has been working at the K.O. Lee Aberdeen Public Library (formerly Alexander Mitchell Public Library) for almost 20 years. Starting out as a reference assistant during college\, she moved on to a full time position at the circulation desk and a year later was promoted to Community Services Librarian. After 11 years she was also promoted to Assistant Library Director. This title and duties were added to my Community Services Librarian position. I have a BA in History Research & Writing from Northern State University\, obtained my MLIS from the University of Wisconsin\, Milwaukee.
