Swan Selects SirsiDynix Symphony® and SirsiDynix Enterprise® for its Library Management and Discovery Needs

April 22nd, 2014

LEHI, UTAH (Apr. 22, 2014) – Illinois-based SWAN (System Wide Automation Network) announced that it has signed a 5-year agreement with SirsiDynix, selecting the Symphony integrated library system, the Enterprise discovery tool, and the eResource Central digital content management tool as the best fits for its 77 member libraries. SWAN’s Enterprise implementation will also feature SirsiDynix’s new, robust integration with EBSCO’s EDS platform for the SWAN member libraries.

Following an extensive assessment and selection process, SirsiDynix’s library products and services emerged as the best choice for SWAN’s mission to provide a state-of-the-art solution to streamline library operations and provide an intuitive and sophisticated user experience. SWAN’s decision to migrate to SirsiDynix heralds a new era of partnership as both organizations work to expand the content, services, and technology they provide to a large and diverse user population.

“As SWAN has introduced SirsiDynix to our membership we are pleased to tell them that we have something for everyone: our libraries, our staff, and most importantly our patrons; whether they are homebound (Outreach), users on the go (BookMyne+), or remote users (Enterprise and eResource Central),” said Kate Boyle, SWAN Member Services Manager.

“Addressing the needs of SWAN libraries was a complex task,” said Aaron Skog, Executive Director of SWAN. “SWAN is one of the longest running, most successful resource sharing networks in the country, having started in 1974 to address the technology needs of libraries. SWAN’s combined annual circulation is 13.5 million items, so we needed a solid backbone to continue high-intensity resource sharing through Symphony. Our group was impressed with the SirsiDynix vision of utilizing Amazon Web Services within its BLUEcloud suite and its roadmap to move patron and staff services to an HTML5-enabled web platform.

“One of the clear advantages of BLUEcloud is eResource Central. SWAN currently manages five e-book providers within its 77 libraries. With eResource Central, we will have full e-book integration within the catalog through Enterprise, allowing patrons to request and download directly from one place instead of being bounced around. In addition, with SirsiDynix’s integration of EBSCO’s EDS platform, we will integrate searching of online databases into our catalog with Enterprise, with unique access for each one of our libraries.”

“BLUEcloud stands for Best Library User Experience,” said Bill Davison, CEO of SirsiDynix. “And that is exactly what we intend to deliver to the administration, staff and patrons of SWAN. We’re committed to providing the most powerful, intuitive staff and user interfaces available anywhere, and to give our customers the tools they need in order to be vibrant and successful in the 21st century.”

SWAN is a membership organization created by suburban Chicago libraries to house their collections and data in a shared, collaborative environment. SWAN manages a unified catalog of over 8 million items and over 1.1 million registered users, making it one of the largest and most sophisticated library consortium in the country.
