GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN, 12 August 2010 – SirsiDynix® today announced that the University Library of Southern Denmark (Syddansk Universitetsbibliotek or SDUB) is now using SirsiDynix Symphony® to serve its diverse community needs. The library, which is used by students and researchers at the University of Southern Denmark as well as members of the local and international community, selected Symphony to replace its SirsiDynix Horizon integrated library system, becoming the first library in Denmark to adopt the flagship integrated library system from SirsiDynix.

Staff at SDUB selected Symphony following a detailed and thorough evaluation over a period of two years. Positive references from other universities using Symphony in Sweden and in the UK were a deciding factor.

Through Symphony, SDUB can deliver materials from outside its traditional walls. By participating in nationwide interlibrary loan programs and by cooperating with foreign partners to offer their materials, “we can more easily offer access to bibliotek.dk than before by being able to continue a search in this national database,” said Bjarne Christensen, head of internal processes for SDUB.

The University currently serves 20,000 students and more than 2,000 researchers across Denmark in Odense, Kolding, Esbjerg, Sønderborg, Slagelse and Copenhagen. The University Library is home to 1.6 million volumes and a number of special collections, which include several important jazz collections. The University Library of Southern Denmark is a public library – its facilities can be used by everyone.

“We are delighted to welcome the University Library of Southern Denmark to the community of thousands of Symphony users around the world,” said Matt Hawkins, chief operating officer for SirsiDynix. “We are privileged to extend our working relationship with the University Library, and we are confident that we can help them meet their goals of expedient and user-friendly service to their community.”
