The library exhibits an increased dedication to higher learning that drove the school’s initiative to become a university. The Utah Legislature awarded Utah Valley State College university status effective July 1, 2008. UVU embarked on its journey as a university with the construction of the new library, which was named the most energy efficient Utah state-owned building, winning two merit awards for green construction by Intermountain Construction in 2008. The library is vital in supporting UVU’s ongoing expansion of academic programs, including several new master’s degree programs.
